The enchanting caves

Travel junkies…..it’s me again no this is not going to work back to my original settings before I scare you off lol. So for those who have travelled the Kariba/chirundu route have you have considered taking a short left or is it right a few kilometres out of chinhoyi? Well you haven’t I feel sorry you are truly missing out on an adventure of a life time.
The wonderful caves are located in the Makonde district which is found in the Mashonaland west province north central Zimbabwe I know that a lot to take in but I wouldn’t want you to get lost right. The caves can be found roughly 9 kilometres by road of course, northwest of the beautiful town of Chinhoyi which used to be known as Sinoia back in the day, which coincidentally the nearest large town, and the location of the district and provincial headquarters. Chinhoyi lies about 135 kilometres, northwest the capital of Zimbabwe, Harare. The caves can be found close to the main road along the highway between Harare and Chirundu, a road which eventually leads to the International border with the republic of Zambia about 250 kilometres which is further northwest of the caves.
According to history the local name for the pool found at the caves Chirorodziva which translates to “Pool of the Fallen” was derived from an incident that happened way back in 1830, where members of the Angonni tribe attacked the local people and threw their victims into the cave as a way of disposing the bodies. The caves which mainly comprise of limestone were first defined by Frederick Courtney Selous in 1888. These caves are the most extensive cave system in Zimbabwe that the public could access. The caves were officially designated as a National Park in 1955 and as such are managed by the Zimbabwe Parks & Wildlife Management Authority. Geographically the caves comprise of Limestone and dolomite. The main cave contains a pool of cobalt blue water, which is popularly called Sleeping Pool or Chirorodziva, trust the colour alone will have you looking at the pool all day. Divers yes you guess what the pool wants to meet you, according to records divers have discovered a submarine passage leading from the Bat Cave, a sub chamber of the Dark Cave to another room known as the Blind Cave. Diving is possible in the caves all year round. Visibility is high, and 50 metres and above which is not unusual. This site is often visited by diving expedition teams of technical divers that perform ultra-deep diving, I really need diving lessons like as soon as possible. It is not uncommon for dives in excess of 100 metres to be made here by experienced divers. As for accommodation, a campsite, run by the National Parks Authority, and a motel are located on-site, talk about having your back literally. So much mystery has always followed the place but hey………

Ps carry your wallet for entrance and accommodation purposes
