the valley

Eastern highlands has the most incredible Mountain View you can only dream but have you ever travelled down the Gweru to Zvishavane route?

I love adventure yes plus a dash of tourism here and there but as much as the shurugwi road to Zvishavane freaks me out a bit, I have to say it’s pretty amazing. So for those traveling to Harare coming from Zvishavane directions are definitely not necessary unless you new to the place but don’t fret my homies will show you the way. As for those familiar with the Harare Bulawayo route, once you get to Gweru make sure you look for the midlands state university sign, the turn off is directly opposite teechers’ furnitures where Eagleliner usually picks up/drops off travellers. Once on that route there are about two roundabouts make sure you don’t continuously follow the Msu signs otherwise you might end being in an awkward situation. Shurugwi is a small town found in the midlands region. The town is mostly know for mining yes I know the famous mashurugwi but we are definitely not going to talk about those guys today. It has been developing for years now with a proper town and businesses that cater for your needs. Just after the town comes the famous Boterekwa area. Right for those who didn’t or who have never been to boterekwa, that is scary and beautiful at the same time…..confusing I know, it’s like watching a horror movie at night when you are home alone, you want to watch the whole movie but you can help it but cover your face with your hands just to protect your mind from the permanent flashbacks lol. Boterekwa is full twists and turns plus a pinch of curves that being expected as the road was constructed right in the middle of a valley.

I love the view especially around 5pm…..sunset things and you can only imagine what the view is like at dawn, picture perfect. Last year after a certain trip to Zvishavane, we stopped by the layby on our way back to Harare and I have to say my camera couldn’t the capture the full picture of what I was looking at. The view from where we were standing was beautiful, you could literally see the bottom part of the valley and the different corners of the place, the area is quiet big with trees everywhere but the stop over was really worth it.
